Indiana Borough’s Parking Department modified its parking policy on March 19th, 2020 to provide a one-hour grace period of free parking at metered spaces. This decision was made in collaboration with Downtown Indiana, Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, and the Indiana County Tourist Bureau. The modified policy was intended to enable shoppers and others doing business in our community ample time to pick up food, dry cleaning, or any other items our local business offer.
As Indiana County moves towards “yellow status” on May 15th, Indiana Borough will be extending this one-hour grace period until June 5th, 2020. This extension is meant to aide our business community as we enter the lessening of restrictions to include retail business activity.
This modification is not intended to offer free parking to those while working downtown. It is also not intended to occupy parking spaces in front of businesses for longer than one hour. The intention is to provide convenient, short-duration parking for patrons of our business community.
Please be advised that our Parking Enforcement Officers will be remain out and checking on vehicles and those not adhering to the modified rules will still be ticketed. If you intend to be parked at a metered space for multiple hours, you must still pay for the meter.
Regular hours of enforcement: Monday through Saturday from 7AM - 7PM
The Parking Department will continue to monitor traffic flow and will evaluate data for future decisions regarding metered parking. We hope that this extension helps demonstrate the Borough's continued support of our business community and sincerely appreciate the patience of our residents throughout the Governor’s shutdown order.
